- Belgium adopts BLUEFUME® in a pilot fumigation project, marking a significant advancement in sustainable insect control.
- The pilot treatment, conducted at a rice mill in partnership with EWS Group, demonstrates the practical application of BLUEFUME® as a safe and environmentally responsible alternative.
- The project underscores Belgium’s commitment to safer, more sustainable food protection practices
International Treatment Solutions (INTRESO) Group, in collaboration with EWS Group, has announced the successful completion of a pilot fumigation project in Belgium with BLUEFUME®, a non-greenhouse fumigant based on hydrogen cyanide (HCN). This initiative sets a strong precedent for the future of sustainable pest control throughout Europe’s food industry.
Not just more sustainable: also, a cleaner and faster choice for food facilities
The pilot fumigation was undertaken at a rice mill, a critical facility in the food supply chain, where stored product insects pose ongoing challenges. The use of BLUEFUME® provides a promising alternative to traditional fumigants, offering powerful efficacy across all insect life stages with a notably short exposure time of only 24 hours. In addition, BLUEFUME® does not contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, nor does it damage modern processing equipment, thereby supporting both operational continuity and environmental stewardship.
Blueprint for safe, modern fumigation
The project was executed under stringent safety protocols, reflecting INTRESO Group’s commitment to the highest safety and technical standards. Extensive preparatory work, comprehensive product training, and dedicated technical support ensured that the pilot was conducted in a controlled and secure environment.
Belgium signals European shift towards environmental pest management
The adoption of BLUEFUME® in Belgium highlights a growing international shift towards more environmentally sustainable fumigation practices. With Belgium continuing to expand its food storage and processing capacity, the integration of safer, more sustainable pest management solutions is becoming increasingly essential to support food security and environmental objectives.
Commenting on the pilot, Adam Trocha, Product Manager at INTRESO Group, stated:
“The successful application of BLUEFUME® in Belgium signifies a major advancement in the evolution of sustainable fumigation practices in Europe. Our collaboration with EWS Group has demonstrated that effective pest control can be achieved without compromising environmental integrity or operational safety. We are proud to contribute to Belgium’s leadership in adopting innovative solutions that protect both people and the planet.”
